1958 Dodge Airplane Fuel Delivery Truck ~ Phillips 66

As long as there have been airplanes, there have been ground support
vehicles to fill the tanks and support them.
In the US, one of the big names in Aviation fuel was (and still is)
Phillips 66.

The only vintage image I could find on the web of one of these trucks
in action is this little photo above.
But this is of a similar vehicle to the one we are advertising here.

And here is what we have.
The history on this machine is that it was used in Colorado for many
years
and it made it's trip to California in around the year 2000.
The truck was reportedly first used by Phillips, and was eventually
re-painted and used
as you see it an an airport in Vail Colorado.
It has spent much of it's life outdoors, but with little to no real
"soft stuff" and a very dry climate of life...it has survived very well.

There have been some playful adjustments made to the truck...but for
the most part it is very original and intact.

This shot inside the fuel tank shows quite clearly that it is super
clean in there and could be used to deliver fuel again.

Another inside the tank shot...

The truck features a small trunk in the back for storage of tools.

The exhaust is routed out the front of the truck, to keep fumes and
heat away from the precious cargo.

The truck is very dry underneath.

Look at the size of that stack of leaf springs!!
A huge tank of fuel is not a light load...but this was built to handle
it!

The 6 cylinder flathead engine may look a little dusty and sad here,
but after very minimal coaxing
it fired right up and ran very nicely during our inspection.
The brakes will need to be checked and the tires have some dry rot to
them.
But the engine and trans are very good.
A truck like this never saw many miles...spending it's whole life
roaming
about the airport.

Open air motoring is very interesting, but this kept the truck low
enough to clear under the wings of many planes.

The custom tank and coach built body is super unique.
No matter what you are in to...this is not something you will come
across often.

I look at this and picture it repainted in the Phillips 66
livery...what a fantastic addition to any
truck collection or collection of petroliana.

ODD is right!
This is a very odd vehicle and I would imagine, extremely rare as well.

Ever see one like it?

Here it is emerging from it's parking spot under it's own power.
It is indeed a runner.

Details on the pump meter.

Everything is here and it as working fine when last used in 2000.

The US star markings were done for fun when last stationed in Vail.
It was never a military use vehicle...although that might be pretty
cool to do it up as such!!

The simple dash has seen many days in the sun.

Hood side emblems

The faded star...

The single headlight is uncommon to see on this era truck, but with it
being an industrial use vehicle...it make sense.

The truck is really wild. It was bought by the current owner with plans
on it being a support vehicle for his vintage aircraft.
He never putit into use and has been too busy with other ventures to
attend to it...so here it is.
Do you have the ability and desire to take it on?
If so...I can almost guarantee that you will be the only one on the
block with one like it!!
