1952 VW Beetle Sunroof Sedan For Sale

SOLD!

When it comes to vintage Beetles...
a Split Window Sunroof with "Crotch Coolers" is pretty hard to top.
And when it comes to finding a truly correct and show worthy one...I think this car is hard to top!
This is one of the nicest restored Splits that has ever hit the pages of Oldbug.

First of all...the big question always seems to be...is it an original sunroof car?
Well of course it is...it is the real deal, not a clone or copy or one with a roof from another car.
It is 100% legit and the restoration is impressively correct and well detailed.
All the right stuff is here on this car...the restorer even used German hardware with the correct markings on them.

16" wheels with bias ply tires and correct painted logo small emblem caps

Bulb style headlights with the VW logo fluted glass lenses and hendlight rings with the screws in the right spots.

Grooved bumpers and small guards...chrome is superb.

Round horn grilles...check out the view of the Bosch horn behind the grille
and note that the screws holding the tag to the horn and timed so the slots line up...
this is the level of detail that you so rarely see.

Perfect

Take a look at the reflection in this paint...WOW!
This car has a truly phenomenal quality body and paint job.
The whole car is equally impressive.

Proper split era taillights

Superb workmanship on this car.
The restoration was reportedly done by a company that builds
Pebble Beach Concours quality cars for clients such as Ralph Lauren, etc.
The level of detail shows it.

I love seeing that the parts used on the car are all truly correct and proper.
The trim is the original aluminum, not the reproduction stuff in stainless.
The hood badge and handle are correct and original.

Correct early solid hood emblem

Wipers are the correct wire syle

Even the antenna is a correct red tipped Hirschmann!!

Running board rubber is the proper thin groove material...fenders are all the proper originals
and the fit and finish of every gap is fantastic.

Do you get the idea that I like this car somehow??
You bet I do...this one truly impressed me!

There is something about a black split that just grabs you...so simple, so clean
and it shows the body lines so well.

The split window is it...when you pull up at a VW event in a split,
every head turns.

This car is stellar in the spots most folks never look.
Check out this rear fender well and the cleanliness as well as the fit of everything.
The right original Kamax bolts, the fenders have the proper pressings on the edge
this car is wondefully "right".

Under the engine and chassis it is better than new.
Paint finishes and colors are correct...not too glossy, yet very smooth.

So nice!

Look at that floor pan...WOW!

Front suspension is clean and well detailed...again...not "over restored" and all painted to a mirror finish
it is done the way the factory would have done it...maybe just a bit better in fact.

Fantastic

Look at the paint finish down low here on the front apron.
So often painters miss this spot or the finish work is lacking because it is a spot that
"nobody will ever see"...well guess again...people do look down here and
when it looks this nice, it is a wonderful surprise.

Fender wells are wonderful...boths are the right Kamax German stuff.

Proper grooved semaphores

And of course they work just fine.

The fit and finish of the interior is one of the best I have seen.
Carpet fit to the seams on the seats...very tight, very tidy
and all done in the correct materials and colors.

Rub guard patch on the center tunnel is a touch most folks miss.

Fuel reserve lever (with mounting screws timed).

Under dash

Door sills and jams are spotless

Crotch cooler vents operate smoothly and are beautifully detailed.

Bat wing steering wheel looks superb

Dah is gorgeous and the detail level is super high.
The knobs and ashtray look so perfect...look at the cleanliness of the ingnition key and switch...
The more you look, the more you really fall in love with this car.

Visor and mirror

Headliner fit is superb

Excellent

Telefunken radio is gorgeous!

Handles and window cranks look like jewelry

Shifter and choke knob

Little details like the screw heads being all lined up makes the mega picky anal side of myself just
so freakin happy!!  I know I will probably never build a car that is this level...but it is such a dream to imagine it.

Golde logo handle

Heater rings in the carpet are proper

Look at the hand brake handle where it goes in...this is "Volks Porn" stuff all the way.
This is one of those cars that leaves you breathless ... Im gonna need a cigarette and a nap after looking at this pics.

OK...these screws arent timed...but damn they are clean...no buggered up slots or anything.

The vent notch in the windows.

Door panels look fantastic

Coat cook and assist strap detail..
(and again with the screws!  Oh yeah!)

Ashtray

Heater knob

Bolster pillows

Luggage rails in the rear area.

Seat back.

Check rods in the doors and the domelight switches are so clean!

Dreamy

I am just geeking out on the finish on the hardware...all consistent throughout.

Such a jewel!

Correct 25 horse engine detailed to the same impressive level as the rest of the car

T air cleaner

Flat top distributor

Fuel pump

Proper "star" coil

"D" regulator

Big nut generator and correct oil filler

Wiring is all the cloth covered stuff

Engine number

Carburetor

Crank start nut on the pulley and the matching engine tin

No crank hole in the apron though...but from what I have learned
this is probably just as it came off the factory line.

License light from the back

Latch detail

Come on here...look at this!
Look at how clean and perfect the finish is.

Top of the carb...look how clean this is.
How on earth did they even do this...I mean...really?

A thousand geek points for this shot here... Kamax markings on the bolts
and no buggered up corners from errant wrench slips or anything.
It takes a major amount of dedication and patience to build a car like this.

Another geek point detail...you can still see the stamped VW logo on the top of the Popes nose
...so often too heavy of a paint job will make that go away.

Back sides of the bumpers...and again, the right hardware.

Excellent fit to the sunroof

Wide open to let in the sun.

A sunroof split Beetle is the dream car of so many VW fans world wide.

There is no denying why too...they are just so cool.
The values on these are climbing swiftly these days and I can see very soon that they will break
the six figure mark like the early VW Busses did a few years back.

Under the front hood is spotless clean as well

Body tags are present

And that little "G" after the model number is one of the tell-tale signs that the car is the real deal.
The G stands for Golde, the manufacturer of the sunroof.
If you see a sunroof split without the G...chances are that it is a clip job.

Back of the radio

Beautiful

Radio power pack

Correct front hood and "witches hat" rubber deals on the body trim clips

Correct early 3 bolt hood hinges

Nice finish underneath

A few more interior shots with better lighting

Excellent

In closing this is about as nice as they get.
The most desirable model Beetle sedan, the 3 fold sunroof, the split rear window, the crotch cooler vents and semaphores.
It is restored stone stock, which is another rarity in the scene today it seems.
So many are lowered to the ground and fitted with silly wheels and big engines.
I know...it makes the pages of the magazines that way, but the true investment value is with a car just like this.
While the price is not shy on this car, the condition and quality warrants it...and with the way the
market is climbing on these cars I bet in a few years this will seem like quite the bargain.
